When Q arrived at Thandi House, she had nowhere left to go. She was a teenager, pregnant, and had just been turned away by the very system that was supposed to protect her, asked to leave a children's home because she was expecting a baby. As if the most vulnerable moment of her young life was reason enough to show her the door. We opened ours instead.
That is what Thandi House does. We do not turn children away because their circumstances are complicated or inconvenient or uncomfortable. We pull them closer. We say: you are still a child, and you still deserve a family, and you are welcome here. Today, that young woman is a success story. She is a mother raising a thriving child. She is standing on her own two feet, building a life that nobody handed her, a life she fought for, with a little help from people who refused to give up on her. We are so proud of her. We always will be.
